In Beitou we’ll stay in a hot spring hotel where you can enjoy your private hot spring in the room. For New Taipei City and Hualien, we’ll be in smaller, village towns and will enjoy staying in a local inn. These accommodations are quaint, clean, simple and full of local flavor. Rooms will have their own bathrooms and showers, a heater and air conditioning as needed and a communal garden, or beautiful courtyard for guests to enjoy. Cancellation Policy

Any cancellation will result in a total loss of the $1000 USD deposit. Cancellations made between September 1st and October 31st, 2024 will result in a loss of 50% of the trip price. Any cancellation made between November 1st, 2024 and the trip departure will result in a total loss of funds. We reserve the right to cancel the trip if it is not meeting the trip minimum. (If we do so, you will be refunded in full.)

FAQs

What airport should I fly into?

Yay! You’re coming to Taiwan! It’s best to fly into Taiwan’s main international gateway which is Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, located about 30 miles southwest of where we’ll be meeting in Beitou District, Taipei. The airport code is TPE.

How early should I arrive?

We recommend you arrive a few days early to get some rest, recover from any jet lag and to enjoy a longer stay on this beautiful island! And, we definitely recommend you arrive no later than Monday, March 3rd so you can join the beginning of our trip Tuesday morning for some refreshing “Good Morning Qigong” and a delicious breakfast all together.

How do I get from the airport to the hotel in Beitou where the trip begins the morning of March 4th?

For those arriving a few days early, we are happy to give you recommendations on where to go and stay. And if you’re arriving Monday, March 3rd, we’ll help guide you on how to get to the hotel in Beitou district where we’ll be meeting the following morning.

Do I need a visa to travel to Taiwan?

If you are a U.S. passport holder, you will be allowed to enter Taiwan without a visa for up to ninety days if your passport is valid for more than 90 days, and you can show a confirmed return or onward ticket. Many countries around the world enjoy this visa-exemption. Visit Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for a complete and updated list.

What is the weather like in March?

March through May are considered good times to visit Taiwan as temperatures are moderate (averaging low 60s at night and upper 60s/low 70s during the day) and rainfall is significantly less than the rainy season months of June – September. That said, it is good to be prepared for rain, as rainfall is a year-wide occurrence in Taiwan, and on average, March has 10-12 days with some rainfall – still far less than the summer months.

Certain types of cherry blossom, tulips, azaleas, and calla lilies bloom in March, and as there are no major holidays, March is an ideal month for visiting, hiking, exploring rural villages and experiencing everyday life in Taiwan.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is an ancient yet evolving Chinese form of meditation, breath and movement. Taichi, Bagua, martial arts are all forms of Qigong, and Chinese Medicine is born from Qigong.

“Qi” translate at “vital life energy” and “gong” is skill or to cultivate. Qigong is the practice of cultivating our life energy. Qigong practice is refreshing, relaxing and deeply nourishing, and some of the many “side effects” include good health, increased energy, joy, aliveness, inner peace and wellbeing.

Qigong comes from Nature. It comes from observing, experiencing, learning from the cycles of nature, the inherent health, vitality and Way – or Dao – of the natural world.

As we are nature, Qigong is a system of healing and self cultivation; it aligns us back into our own inner harmony and wellbeing as mirrored in the web of life and wisdom around us.

Can I join this trip if I have zero or little Qigong experience?

Yes! All the practices are simple yet powerful and leave you feeling happy and refreshed.

How fit should I be for this trip?

We will be doing some moderate hiking and e-biking on this trip. It’s recommended that you can hike 3-5 miles and bike 8-10 miles for the day. If you want to discuss the activities we’ll do during this trip, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Should I get travel insurance?

Yes, definitely. This trip is an investment and it’s best to be prepared. We recommend travel insurance that includes trip cancellation and medical coverage. Be sure to read the fine print, as policies can differ greatly.

We also encourage you to confirm with your travel insurance provider what Covid-19-related issues are covered and to what extent.

Do you have any COVID-19 policies?

We care about your safety and wellbeing. 🙂 We will follow all COVID-19 travel guidelines in effect at the time of the trip and keep you updated on any changes. A great way to ensure your health for our trip is to wear an N95 mask in the airports while traveling to Taiwan.

As of now (July 2024), there are no specific requirements for vaccination or masks for this retreat, but it’s a good idea to bring a few masks just in case. We will also have some extras if needed. Additionally, please bring a couple of rapid COVID tests with you.

Will I have access to the internet?

Yes, at all of our lodging venues, you will have access to the internet with free wifi.

What will our accommodations be like?

What should I pack?

For clothing, pack light and think layers – like a cabbage. Cotton sleeves and a waterproof windbreaker are good, along with a warmer fleece for any cool mornings or evenings. We recommend bringing a small umbrella too for sudden showers.

For visiting temples, modest attire covering the thighs, shoulders and mid-drift is regarded as a sign of respect.

What about money? Can I use my credit card?

Credit cards: Foreign credit cards are widely accepted in mid-range to high-end hotels, restaurants and shops, but not in budget hotels, homestays or street markets.

Mobile payments: Mobile payments took off during COVID-19 and the most popular one is LINE pay. Though Google Pay and Apple Pay are also popular.

Cash: ATMs are widely accessible in urban areas and can be found in all banks, hospitals, MRT and train stations, most convenient stores, supermarkets, malls and even some temples. They are not as accessible in rural areas.

Can I use my phone in Taiwan?

At Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport, where you will fly in, Taiwan’s three main mobile operators – Chunghwa, Taiwan Mobile, and EasTone – sell prepaid, unlimited-data tourist SIMs in Arrivals (4G and 5G). Prices range from NT$300 for three days (~$9 USD) to $1000 for one month (~$30 USD).

How can I offset the impact of my air travel?

We will provide some information on how to offset your carbon footprint from your travel to Taiwan after registration.
